Fundisa code is one of the Fundisa Children’s Foundation projects and the name translates to “Teach Code”.
PROJECT AIM
Our aim with this project is to eliminate the barriers faced by children in rural areas/ disadvantaged segment of society in accessing and using technology by exposing them to IT at an earlier age and help inspire Africa’s future generation of tech innovators.
HOW IT WORKS
We introduce the children to basic computing skills, benefits of technology and problem solving from age 6. This is mainly being done by the use of games and other interaction platforms so that they fall in love with the idea of computers and IT in general.
After this we introduce them to basic web and game development using tools like “Scratch” where they apply principles of problem solving and designing their own solutions logically.
The children who would have shown great interest and talent are the given projects to work on, voluntarily or on a paid basis depending on availability of projects.
The advanced stage of the program is where the children are introduced to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Robotics. This is mainly being done in collaboration with other organizations because of its complexity and need for hardware.
Depending on their interest areas, we then assist the children with securing internships where they can apply their skills to solving real world problems and earn a living.
